Wednesday, May 8th

  • CALOR confidential HIV and STI testing, 12pm-4pm, 3220 W Armitage, free

Every Wednesday without charge, regardless of age, ability to pay or residency. The process, from completing the consent paperwork to getting the results, takes 45 minutes. Counselors are available to review the results and provide referrals, as necessary.

Thursday, May 9th

  • Mary Hutchings Reed, author Warming Up, 7:30pm, Women & Children First Books, 5233 N Clark

Former musical actress now can’t bring herself to audition for parts, even though she once won leading roles. Not therapy but a runaway teenager conning her out of sixty bucks changes her life.

  • Out at Wrigley Singing Contest, 8-10pm, DS Tequila Company, 3352 N Halsted, free

Arrive by 8 to sign up. Free to enter. First round is song of choice; second round will be National Anthem. There will be a karaoke machine to pick your first-round song. Multiple people can advance straight to semifinals at Sidetrack.

Friday, May 10th

  • The Improvised Sondheim Project, 10:30am, Stage 773, 1225 W Belmont, $15

Theatre ensemble that performs completely improvised, spontaneous musicals in the style of composer Stephen Sondheim. Just a suggestion from the audience and the muse of Mr. Sondheim to guide them as they make up a brand new musical each night right before your eyes.

  • Scarlet celebrated The Great Gatsby, 9pm, Scarlet Bar, 3320 N Halsted

Scarlet recreates some of that same the world-has-no-bounds energy, as seen in The Great Gatsby. Featuring DJ DOLO, boas, and bathtub Gin.  Come in period outfit for a gift card to a Saturday Martini Brunch at Taverna 750!
