This is Anyone’s Business, an article made by you. We pose a question in the hopes of starting discussion and comment.
Across the internet, people have been viewing stills of surveillance footage, figures with hats and backpacks in clear vision while the rest of the scene have been blurred; these are two men we are convinced have something to do with the Boston Marathon Bombing. With the apprehension of a suspect and the use of these surveillance tapes by not just law enforcement, but citizens who saw it online or on TV and used social media platforms to enact some sort makeshift digital posse. We are left to ask after all this, what are the merits and the detriments to urban surveillance? Furthermore how much should footage or stills be distributed in times of crisis?
