On Saturday, March 23, 2013 The Qu presents “Thank You For Being a Friend: The Ultimate Golden Girls Dance and performance party at Parlour on Clark, continuing The Qu’s streak of “Ultimate” dance parties.
“The Golden Girls was one of the last great TV shows that brought progressive ideas to a mass audience. The very idea that these women were living valuable lives without being partnered was at the time and still to some extent now, a radical idea,” said Erin O’neal, of The Qu. “The characters frequently reflected on their positions of privilege, and was one of the first mainstream shows with groundbreaking episodes about LGBTQ issues. The Golden Girls, above all, exemplified the idea of chosen family and how those chosen families are valid, necessary and beautiful.”
Founded in 2011, The Qu (www.thequ.co) is an LGBT multi-media news and entertainment website based in Chicago. With breaking news, daily entertainment features, and regular original content, it has quickly become the go-to site for queer people seeking hip, up-to-the-minute information.
