Poetry: The Birds

by: Elaine Body

Don’t give in
Don’t slit your tongue
Into thousands of birds
And let them go
I’ve heard your whispers
And your song
Don’t lock your words up
In a suitcase and throw yourself
Away

You were meant to be
The rust
And the metal
And the wood
You were meant
For everything
Be the sky
And the birds
